Using my blog to try and make the world a better place. If I can help someone forget their troubles for a few minutes a day, it's all worth it.

Lippy The Lion And Hardy Har Har

I seem to recall these guys as being part of the Yogi Bear show. Hardy was a laughing hyena who was depressed all the time. I loved the Yogi Bear show, but I could only watch it when I was sick from school because it only aired on weekdays during school hours....

I'm sure:

Every tv actor has at least one episode they'd like to forget.

Bicycle safety flags:

I didn't have the above, I had the 6-foot orange one. Dad kept tightening the bolts, but they kept coming loose and the flag never stayed up .... but at least he "tried"....

Does anyone else remember:

Whenever there was a "Peanuts" special on TV, Dolly Madison snacks were very heavily promoted.. they must've had a partnership or something.....

Well the first thing you know, old Jed's a millionaire...

.... the kinfolk said "Jed, move away from here!" They said "Californi-a's the place you oughta be", so they loaded up the truck and they moved to Beverly.
Hills that is.
Swimmin' pools.
Movie stars.

The Rockford Files:

My grandfather loved The Rockford Files. I watched it a few times but it really wasn't my thing back then. Supposedly, the pic on the right is a shot from one of the final scenes of the show. I guess James Garner hurt his knee in that scene, and his knee injury was what cancelled the show.

"With Doug and Emmy Jo, every day's a different show"..

I often wonder what happened to the 2 who played Doug and Emmy Jo on The New Zoo Revue. If they're still alive, I wonder what they're up to..

I bet it cost some kid about 8 box tops, and $2 S&H to score one of these..

I had some dreams, they were clouds in my coffee..

You walked into the party Like you were walking onto a yacht - Your hat strategically dipped below one eye, Your scarf it was apricot. You had one eye in the mirror As you watched yourself gavotte, And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner.

So does anyone out there remember:

Protein 21 shampoo??? You do? Because I don't...

Random find:

I'm not sure as to the date of the above, but I'm guessing mid- late 50's / very early 60's. I wonder how much an unused set would go for these days.

Mammoth Mart (I'm not really sure if I posted about this or not before):

I couldn't have been more than 5 when the local Mammoth Mart went out of business. And I was too young to really remember the kind of stuff they sold there (from the outside it looked like a grocery store). Judging from the flier they were the first Walmart-type store. I remember the Fotomat booth closing not long after that, not that the 2 had any bearing on the other, of course...

So...

Anybody feel like a big, steaming bowl of Mammoth Chunks??? Well, looks like there's only about 5 cans left here, and at only $9.99 a can they obviously won't last long..

I found the above pic when I did an image search for Schoolhouse Rock. Apparantly it's a self-portrait. I don't know what the guy looked like in real life, but I bet it's pretty close.

Dom Deluise could always make me laugh.

Friday night and the lights are low, looking out for the place to go. Where they play the right music, getting in the swing....

... dancing queen, feel the beat from the tambourine. You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life. See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen.

Random:

Recently I came across the abstract for my property here in upstate New York. I looked through the all the enclosed deeds, and saw the earliest-recorded deed for a Mister Scott G. Boyce, dated November 9, 1896, for the purchase of my property (which, at the time, included over 91 acres of land), for a sum of $50. It was recorded on March 22nd, 1897.

I'm not sure if it's this one I saw, or Part 2, or maybe I saw both..

Bob, Carol, Ted and Alice:

I'm not sure when this movie debuted, but it came out when my folks were still married. At the time, they were friends with a couple named Bob and Carol. Dad's name is Ted, and my mom's middle name is Alice. They used to joke about it all the time. I always wondered if there was a similarity other than just the name-sake (if you catch my drift), but I never asked because quite frankly, for obvious reasons, I really didn't want to know....
I love ghost towns. I found the above pics when I did an image search. I believe it's the town of Bodie, wherever that is...

The Haunting Of Hill House by Shirley Jackson:

"No live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality; even larks and katydids are supposed, by some, to dream. Hill House, not sane, stood by itself against its hills, holding darkness within; it had stood so for eighty years and might stand for eighty more. Within, walls continued upright, bricks met neatly, floors were firm, and doors were sensibly shut; silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone."

I'd forgotten all about this one:

I think it came out just after the 1976 re-make of King Kong. It didn't last more than a couple of years.

Poor Ken:

Since I was raised by my mom (dad split when I was a kid), and since most my cousins were girls, and most my neighbors were girls, I saw alot of barbie collections. I did notice, however, none of those collections contained a Ken doll. Nobody wanted to play with that guy.

And I'm gonna go there free:

Like a pine tree linin' a winding road, I got a name.
Like the whipoorwhil and a croakin' toad, I got a name
And I carry it with me like my daddy did.
But I'm living the dream that he kept hid.
Movin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by.

Robin Cook's "Coma":

This was a novel-turned-movie about a hospital that put people into comas, and in turn sold their body parts on the black market. There was a scene in the book where the story's hero female doctor (pictured above) bought a tuna fish sandwich from a vending machine. Is that nasty or what???
The author was a man, but until I did the image search for this post just now, I assumed the author was a woman.
